banana-haters have feelings too

so guess what i did on saturday?

lindsay and i watched old sailor moon episodes AND "a night out with the backstreet boys" (acoustic concert).

i must say it was quite a trip down memory lane (and why is it a lane? i think it should be a highway because time passes much more quickly than a stroll down a lane...). i can't believe it has been EIGHT years since we were into sailor moon, and SEVEN years since we started liking the backstreet boys.

part of me feels sad that i have lost some sense of naivete and innocence from those days... i look back and remember how my life blissfully revolved around friendships and the fad-of-the-week (in the case of the backstreet boys i suppose it was fad-of-the-2nd-half-of-the-nineties). but on the other hand, i'm grateful for the wisdom and experiences the years have given me... and although i'm somewhat sobered from pain and lessons learned from mistakes, i know that i have a deeper insight into life and a better relationship with God because of it.

i guess life takes you places that you don't necessarily want to go, but then when you get there and look back at the journey you've been through - you're thankful that you didn't just stay where you thought you were happiest, because God has so much more for us.

and that is how you can find deeper meaning into sailor moon and bsb. :)

Twenty Romantic Comedies You Should Watch and Why:

Teen Flicks
1. Clueless - the pioneer of the 90s teen comedies that made way for She's All That, 10 Things I Hate About You, Bring it On, and many, many more.
2. She's All That - most famous for Sixpence's song "Kiss Me," ironically funny because we all know Rachel Leigh Cook was already beautiful before the makeover.

Period Pieces/Literature
3. Emma - Jane Austen is the mistress of the original rom-com (no matter what ppl tell you, Emma is much funnier than Pride and Prejudice.)
4. Ever After - Cinderella with a twist - we'd all like to think she really was a fiesty independent woman instead of a self-pitying pushover who needs a fairy godmother to tell her to stand up for herself.
5. Much Ado About Nothing - the title describes what rom-coms actually are.

Brit-Chick
6. Bridget Jones' Diary - it made being an overweight-smoking-drinking-crass-British-single woman trendy. I mean, if Bridget can get Colin Firth/Mark Darcy/Mr. Darcy, then the rest of us Plain Janes still have hope!
7. Love Actually - this is a bonus watch since it's pretty much five or six rom-coms smashed into one.

A Modern-Day Cinderella
8. Miss Congeniality - a glimpse into the crazy world of beauty pagaents with a little kick-butt action.
9. Never Been Kissed - what girl wouldn't want disguise herself as a high school student and fall in love with the really hot English teacher?

Not Really a Rom-Com
10. Legally Blonde - someone had to make a movie about the underdog blonde.
11. Father of the Bride (1 and 2) - extremely enviable father-daughter relationship with a couple of hilarious wedding planners (who also happen to do baby rooms too?)

Glamorous Big-City Jobs
12. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days - chic women's magazine writer meets advertisor
13. The Wedding Planner - immaculate anal wedding planner meets (already engaged) doctor
14. What Women Want - chauvenistic advertisor meets (female) advertisor boss
15. You've Got Mail - children's book store owner meets cappucino-selling bookstore mogul

Classics
16. Sleepless in Seattle - the original tom and meg combo
17. When Harry Met Sally - okay, so i actually haven't seen this movie in its entirety, but i had to mention it cuz of that one famous scene.
18. Pretty Woman - the film that made julia roberts a megastar.
19. Four Weddings and a Funeral - so I'm not a huge Hugh Grant fan, but you hafta go back to the original bumbling-stuttering-fluttering eyes movie if you wanna see where it all began.

And of course...
20. While You Were Sleeping - my all-time favorite needs no description or introduction. :)

Other good ones that didn't make the cut:
The Cutting Edge - initial hatred and sarcasm on ice skates makes for great comedy.
Jerry Maguire - "You had me at hello..."
Groundhog's Day - completely unreal, which is why it's hilarious.
An Ideal Husband - Another period piece, Oscar Wilde has a knack for making the ridiculous seem like such a big deal.
The Wedding Singer - Adam Sandler & Drew Barrymore - a great combination.
