i'm back at school! aagh! it's nice to have my computer finally set up. now i can blog blog blog! hehe... but i have a feeling a lot of people haven't set up their computers yet or don't have any time to read my blog. that's okay. i don't have time either. i'm just excited to not be using dial-up modem anymore.

so i lied about the boy band list. it's coming, just not now. hehe...

in honor of the summer, here is my
Top Ten Summer Moments/Memories:

10. working from home. granted it wasn't that exciting, but it was nice being able to watch tv and talk online while working. and i didn't even have to leave my nice air conditioned home.

9. the blackout of 2003. (original name, eh?) okay so... no, this was not fun either. but it was kind of ... exciting? i'm sure all of you who were affected can relate. hehe... in a sticky hot dark house... all you can do is play board games by candlelight. and visit your family friends in canton to take a shower.

8. voice lessons! shout out to christine shay for working so hard to help us. it was cool getting some real coaching finally! i learned a lot... hopefully i'll be able to use what i learn some day...

7. crossword puzzles! my mom got me hooked. (ie: i was so bored this summer i couldn't find anything else to do...) i can now complete the detroit news puzzles in 20 minutes! with my mom's help of course. i'm going to frame the first puzzle i finish by myself. if that ever happens.

6. saved by the bell reruns! CLASSIC. my favorites are - the one where jessie gets hooked on caffeine pills: "i'm so excited, i'm so excited... i'm so... ... scared..... " and... the one where kelly dumps zack for jeff: "it wasn't supposed to be this way, not for us!" "kelly i thought we would always be together..." "oh zack i'm so sorry!"
>> okay so neither of these were very happy episodes, but dude they're so classic!

5. Kelly and Andy's wedding. what a gorgeous wedding! not to mention a tearjerker! i can't imagine what i'll be like when the sequel comes out. (ie: dave and lindsay! ahhh!)

4. OCC retreat @ huntington. it was an awesome experience being a counselor and getting to know the kids and serving with my friends. God really taught me a lot and blessed me through that weekend!

3. the flat tire fiasco weekend. lindsay aptly titles it "what a weekend". i never even got to finish the story either? hmm... guess it was too long ago to reiterate. oh well. the memories we created will last a lifetime!

2. baby ruth fellowship! (we never had a name... i just kept calling it baby ruth... hehe). it was so cool meeting with the college girls this summer for bible study and fellowship. i know God definitely provided for us and blessed us with the opportunity to see our plans through. through our manuscript study of Ruth i learned that the big picture is always good because it is God who controls it... and that we need to strive to have good character like ruth because God really honors that. i also got to know some of the girls a lot better and we really shared some great moments. thanks for all of the awesome fellowship, sistaz!

1. every blessing you pour out i'll turn back to praise
and when the darkness closes in, Lord, still i will say...
Blessed be the name of the Lord, blessed be your name...
blessed be the name of the Lord, blessed be your glorious name...
>>this song seemed to be the theme song of my summer. not only did we sing it every day at the occ retreat, we got to teach it to our cbc english congregation as well.

this song exactly describes what i went through this summer. i had some really high points, and some really low points. but through all of it, God never changed and He definitely taught me a lot this summer. and because of that, i praise and bless his name! i'm constantly learning this lesson, that all situations, whether or not they seem good or bad at the time, come out to glorify Jesus, and that's because He's in control! so before i start sounding preachy, let me just quote my favorite verse!

and we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love HIm, who have been called according to his purpose. ~ Romans 8:28

here's to the summer and all the good and bad things in between! i'm ready to start the next chapter: senior year!

top ten things to do when you don't have electricity or running water:

you know, just in case a blackout this crazy ever happens again...

10. do NOT, i repeat, do NOT freak out. some people got arrested at a gas station after discovering they were out of gas. sheesh, you people need to CALM DOWN. it's not like it was their fault!

9. learn how to entertain yourself after 9pm without any lights, tv, computer, stereo, air conditioning... some suggestions: crossword puzzles by candlelight, late night chats in the dark, or star-gazing because they're more visible when there are no city lights around.

8. stay in the western-most part of your house in the evening so as to make use of the sunlight as best as possible.

7. play board games with your family and take turns manually oscillating the one little battery-operated fan you own.

6. instead of dinner and a movie, have dinner and a shower at your friends in canton or taylor or wherever they had power first.

5. thank whoever decided not to get rid of your one telephone that wasn't cordless

4. reserve one toilet at home for going #2 and wait til everyone has gone to use distilled water to flush it down. hopefully it'll work, unlike our experience.

3. make everyone have milk and cereal, orange juice and cold leftover spaghetti so it won't go to waste. (the toilet thing is important after having had milk and oj together...)

2. take a shower outside in the rain - my brother did! it was the highlight of my day.

1. thank God for all the things you take for granted, and learn that we depend on God alone to provide for us!

:: i hope you all were safe and clean during the blackout! leave your entertaining stories in the shout-outs!

it's time to play:

guess the underwear!

STORY:
joyce drives lindsay and i to lansing last last friday night for christy's farewell party. on the way home, joyce drives to their new apartment to show me where they're living. joyce turns too suddenly on a weird shaped curb, and blows out the tire on the front passenger side. joyce calls AAA, 2 police cars show up in the mean time. AAA comes, changes tire to spare tire. meanwhile, lindsay is taking videos and pictures on her digital camera. (how asian are we?!) we drive to christy's house to spend the night since we can't get home on such a little tire. early on saturday morning, we go to discount tire company to get a real tire. while waiting, we walk to the mall and go to victoria's secret and see the 5 for $19.50 deal on low-rise bikini underwear. joyce buys two, lindsay buys two, i buy one (my very first victoria's secret purchase! they even let me have the cute pink bag!). lindsay becomes an "angel". (applause, please!!). we go back to discount tire, drive home... and the adventure comes to an end. (oh... but it has only just begun! mwahahahaha...)

once i get the pictures up online, i'll post them so you can start guessing who bought which underwear!! [GRIN]

stay tuned!
